Sarrah Ahmed (she/her)

M.A. in Counselling
Bachelor of Science (Psychology)

  • What areas do you specialize in?

I specialize in the following areas: anxiety, depression, eating disorders, trauma, domestic violence, interpersonal relationships, neurodivergence, and immigrant and refugee mental health.

  • What is your professional background?

I graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in psychology from the University of Saskatchewan in June 2020. While attending university, I also volunteered at Peer Health on the University of Saskatchewan campus. My role primarily entailed providing mental health support to staff and students.

After graduating, I began working at a settlement agency where I assessed newcomers’ settlement needs in various areas, such as housing, education, employment, and mental and physical health. Through working in the settlement sector, I have developed experience in responding to mental health crises, domestic violence, child abuse, housing crises, and food insecurity in various newcomer populations.

While working in the settlement sector, I began the Master of Counselling program at Athabasca University. I will receive my Master's degree in May 2025 and then begin the process of applying for licensure.

  • What can I expect in a session with you?

My approach to therapy is anti-oppressive, collaborative, trauma-informed, and feminist. I primarily operate from a person-centred therapy model and I incorporate techniques from other therapeutic models, such as narrative therapy, strengths-based therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, and internal family systems therapy.

In our first session, we will get to know each other and talk a little bit about your presenting concerns. We may also develop a potential plan that we can follow in future therapy sessions. This plan can be altered as we progress through therapy. I strongly value open communication and feedback; I want to hear from you if anything needs to be changed or improved. You are the expert in your life and you know yourself best!

  • What do you believe helps people to make changes or heal?

I believe that when people are in an environment that makes them feel accepted for who they are and safe enough to be vulnerable and open about their feelings, it can lead to change and healing. This is the kind of environment I strive to create for my clients.

  • What is a favourite quote related to counselling?

“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” - Carl Rogers
